SUMMARY:Examining Reproducibility in European Science\, seminar by Nicholas J. DeVito
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nReproducibility is crucial to the progress and impact of Research and Innovation (R&I) as it confirms or corrects the outcomes of single studies\, resulting in higher quality research\, more reliable and implementable outcomes\, and a reduction of research costs. OSIRIS (Open Science to Increase Reproducibility in Science) is one of three EU funded consortia studying reproducibility in Europe. It aims to facilitate this shift by systematically gathering knowledge on the underlying drivers\, testing effective evidence-based solutions\, identifying incentives for reproducibility by stakeholders\, and embedding reproducibility in research design. This talk examines the work done by OSIRIS to date to understand what reproducibility means across contexts\, what evidence exists to improve it\, and how we are working to generate new evidence in the field. \nAbout the Speaker: \nNicholas J. DeVito\, MPH\, DPhil \nNick is a postgraduate researcher at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences\, University of Oxford. He leads all research integrity work at the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science including the influential TrialsTracker project and as a member of the OSIRIS Consortium. His research focuses on using mixed-methods approaches to understand how governments and institutions can support and promote more rigorous\, transparent\, and reproducible research. In addition to his funding from the EU\, he currently also receives funding from UKRI for metascience work and supports the OpenSAFELY project at the Bennett Institute. \nFind more here: https://mailchi.mp/consilium-scientific/ykdsdr6f5a

SUMMARY:Metascience 2025 Conference
DESCRIPTION:A global gathering for knowledge sharing\, community building\, and opportunities to define a roadmap of research and intervention priorities to accelerate science. \nMany scholarly fields conduct descriptive research about the research process. Advocates and reformers have prescriptive ideas about how the research process might be improved. Policymakers\, funders\, publishers\, and other stakeholders enact changes to the social and technical infrastructure of research. All have an interest in whether changes and reforms have their intended effects or unintended consequences that might accelerate or inhibit advancement\, translation\, and application of research. Together\, these researchers and stakeholders are the research and development pipeline for improving the system and practice of research. The Metascience 2025 Conference will bring these communities together to share ideas\, evidence\, and foster a culture of continuous experimentation and improvement. \nRead more HERE.

SUMMARY:Call for Reproducibility Papers
DESCRIPTION:ECIR strongly encourages the submission of papers that repeat\, reproduce\, generalise\, and analyse prior work. Please refer to the ACM “Artifact Review and Badging” guidelines for consistent use of the terminology\, which is heterogeneous across disciplines. \nIn particular\, we solicit replicability (different team\, same experimental setup) and reproducibility (different team\, different experimental setup) papers. Submissions from the same authors – i.e.\, repeatability (same team\, same experimental setup) papers – of the reproduced experiments will not be accepted. \nReproducibility is key for establishing research to be reliable\, referenceable\, and extensible for the future. Emphasise your motivation for selecting the paper/papers\, the process of how results have been attempted to be reproduced (successful or not)\, the communication that was necessary to gather all information\, the potential difficulties encountered\, and the result of the process. A successful reproduction of the work is not a requirement\, but it is crucial to provide a precise and rigid evaluation of the process to allow lessons to be learned for the future. \nReproducibility Paper Track Dates\n\nReproducibility paper abstract submission: October 16\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE) October 23\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE)\nReproducibility paper submission: October 23\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE) October 30\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE)\nReproducibility paper notification: December 16\, 2025\nMain conference: April 6-10\, 2025\n\nRead more information HERE.

SUMMARY:Introducing TOP 2025: An Updated Framework for Enhancing Research Transparency and Verifiability
DESCRIPTION:Published in 2015\, the Transparency and Openness Promotion Guidelines (TOP 2015) was developed as a policy framework to enhance the verifiability of empirical research claims in journal articles. It has been widely used and adopted by publishers and academic journals\, but despite its uptake\, concerns have been raised about aspects of the TOP 2015 framework and its implementation. In response to the above\, the purpose of this manuscript is to introduce an official update to the TOP Guidelines. The final version—TOP 2025—provides updated guidelines for promoting the verifiability of published empirical research claims. \nRegister for the webinar here.

SUMMARY:META-REP 2024 – Conference on Meta-Science and Replicability
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce META-REP 2024 – the Conference on Meta-Science and Replicability in the social\, behavioral\, and cognitive sciences. It will be held from October 28 to 31\, 2024 in Munich. The conference is organized by the DFG-funded Priority Program META-REP. \nIn recent years\, replicability\, reproducibility\, robustness\, and validity of empirical findings became a focal and intensively debated and researched topic in the behavioral and social sciences. Aside from an intensive scientific discourse\, these dynamics caused demands for change and innovation. In response to these developments\, the META-REP program is oriented towards three main (meta-)scientific research goals: (1) to define\, describe\, and assess “replicability” (the what-question)\, (2) to provide explanations for replication rates\, heterogeneity and deviation in replication results (the why-question)\, and (3) to assess effectiveness and efficiency of strategies and change aimed at improving robustness (the how-question). We are convinced that many scholars in the fields of the behavioral and social sciences can contribute valuable findings\, ideas\, and discussions to (one of) these three goals. We are excited to provide a platform for the exchange of manifold replication-related research findings and innovation from all scientific disciplines (as well as science communicators\, delegates from funding agencies\, academies\, or science organizations). We thus want to invite everyone whose work relates to one of the manifold aspects of replicability research to attend and/or contribute to META-REP 2024! \nWe hope to see you in Munich\,\nProf. Dr. Mario Gollwitzer\nMETA-REP Program Coordinator \nFind out more HERE.
