SUMMARY:Metascience 2025 Conference
DESCRIPTION:A global gathering for knowledge sharing\, community building\, and opportunities to define a roadmap of research and intervention priorities to accelerate science. \nMany scholarly fields conduct descriptive research about the research process. Advocates and reformers have prescriptive ideas about how the research process might be improved. Policymakers\, funders\, publishers\, and other stakeholders enact changes to the social and technical infrastructure of research. All have an interest in whether changes and reforms have their intended effects or unintended consequences that might accelerate or inhibit advancement\, translation\, and application of research. Together\, these researchers and stakeholders are the research and development pipeline for improving the system and practice of research. The Metascience 2025 Conference will bring these communities together to share ideas\, evidence\, and foster a culture of continuous experimentation and improvement. \nRead more HERE.

SUMMARY:The 20th International Conference on Open Repositories
DESCRIPTION:Call for Proposals\n\n\nThe theme for the OR2025 conference is: Twenty Years of Progress\, a Future of Possibilities \nOR2025 is the 20th anniversary of the Open Repositories conference. We are marking this milestone with a conference theme that reflects the progress and contributions that the repository community has made toward equitable access to digital resources and research outputs. In addition\, we are also exploring the future possibilities of what repositories can do to tackle the many global challenges that currently exist. \nWe particularly welcome proposals aligned to the overall theme\, but also on other administrative\, organizational\, or practical topics related to open digital repositories. We are interested in the following sub-themes: \n\nCommunity: How can repositories continue to serve a global community with diverse uses and needs? What can we as a repository community do to create connections through integrations\, foster trust in the material held in repositories and promote local and indigenous knowledge?\nSustainability and Preservation: How can we ensure that repositories and their digital content last beyond the next 20 years in a financially and environmentally sustainable way?\nInspiration: Have you been inspired by attending an Open Repositories conference to develop\, implement\, change practices or start a project? We would love to hear how this is going!\nBlue-sky thinking: What might the future of equitable access to digital resources and research outputs look like? How can we go beyond the status quo and AI as the answer to everything?\n\nThere are a number of submission categories\, including: posters\, workshops\, lightning talks\, papers\, and panels. We look forward to the vibrant conversations and learning opportunities of the conference. \nThe deadline for submissions has been extended to January 13\, 2025.

SUMMARY:Call for Reproducibility Papers
DESCRIPTION:ECIR strongly encourages the submission of papers that repeat\, reproduce\, generalise\, and analyse prior work. Please refer to the ACM “Artifact Review and Badging” guidelines for consistent use of the terminology\, which is heterogeneous across disciplines. \nIn particular\, we solicit replicability (different team\, same experimental setup) and reproducibility (different team\, different experimental setup) papers. Submissions from the same authors – i.e.\, repeatability (same team\, same experimental setup) papers – of the reproduced experiments will not be accepted. \nReproducibility is key for establishing research to be reliable\, referenceable\, and extensible for the future. Emphasise your motivation for selecting the paper/papers\, the process of how results have been attempted to be reproduced (successful or not)\, the communication that was necessary to gather all information\, the potential difficulties encountered\, and the result of the process. A successful reproduction of the work is not a requirement\, but it is crucial to provide a precise and rigid evaluation of the process to allow lessons to be learned for the future. \nReproducibility Paper Track Dates\n\nReproducibility paper abstract submission: October 16\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE) October 23\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE)\nReproducibility paper submission: October 23\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE) October 30\, 2024\, 11:59pm (AoE)\nReproducibility paper notification: December 16\, 2025\nMain conference: April 6-10\, 2025\n\nRead more information HERE.

SUMMARY:Introducing TOP 2025: An Updated Framework for Enhancing Research Transparency and Verifiability
DESCRIPTION:Published in 2015\, the Transparency and Openness Promotion Guidelines (TOP 2015) was developed as a policy framework to enhance the verifiability of empirical research claims in journal articles. It has been widely used and adopted by publishers and academic journals\, but despite its uptake\, concerns have been raised about aspects of the TOP 2015 framework and its implementation. In response to the above\, the purpose of this manuscript is to introduce an official update to the TOP Guidelines. The final version—TOP 2025—provides updated guidelines for promoting the verifiability of published empirical research claims. \nRegister for the webinar here.

DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce META-REP 2024 – the Conference on Meta-Science and Replicability in the social\, behavioral\, and cognitive sciences. It will be held from October 28 to 31\, 2024 in Munich. The conference is organized by the DFG-funded Priority Program META-REP. \nIn recent years\, replicability\, reproducibility\, robustness\, and validity of empirical findings became a focal and intensively debated and researched topic in the behavioral and social sciences. Aside from an intensive scientific discourse\, these dynamics caused demands for change and innovation. In response to these developments\, the META-REP program is oriented towards three main (meta-)scientific research goals: (1) to define\, describe\, and assess “replicability” (the what-question)\, (2) to provide explanations for replication rates\, heterogeneity and deviation in replication results (the why-question)\, and (3) to assess effectiveness and efficiency of strategies and change aimed at improving robustness (the how-question). We are convinced that many scholars in the fields of the behavioral and social sciences can contribute valuable findings\, ideas\, and discussions to (one of) these three goals. We are excited to provide a platform for the exchange of manifold replication-related research findings and innovation from all scientific disciplines (as well as science communicators\, delegates from funding agencies\, academies\, or science organizations). We thus want to invite everyone whose work relates to one of the manifold aspects of replicability research to attend and/or contribute to META-REP 2024! \nWe hope to see you in Munich\,\nProf. Dr. Mario Gollwitzer\nMETA-REP Program Coordinator \nFind out more HERE.

SUMMARY:Join our 2023 Tropentag workshop!
DESCRIPTION:Workshop 19: Making research transparent and reproducible – Creating a paradigm shift in Open Science!\nOrganiser:\nOSIRIS – Open Science to Improve Reproducibility in Science\nCZU – Czech University of Life Sciences Prague\nYPARD – Young Professionals for Agricultural Development \nTo join\, contact the OSIRIS Communications officer: comms4osiris@gmail.com\nDate: Wednesday\, 20/09/2023\, 08:30 – 11:30 h (CEST)\nIn-person workshop\nLocation: to be announced\nDescription:\nIt is crucial to ensure that this generation and the next are able to produce evidence-based results and have a clear path in conducting Reliable and Trustworthy scientific research. Currently\, the burden of improving reproducibility lies with the researchers\, as there are limited to no incentives to encourage active engagement in reproducibility and ideas for improvement have never been tested in practice. We need a paradigm and culture shift to reform the R&I (research and innovation) system both from the top down and the bottom up to regain overall trust in science.\nThis Open Science and reproducibility workshop will provide young researchers with ways to identify incentives and embed reproducibility in the strategy and design of research projects. They will understand the underlying drivers and effective interventions that increase evidence-based reproducibility at funding\, publishing\, university\, and researcher-level trough an interactive peer-to-peer exchange.\nThe reproducibility of scientific results is at the core of scientific progress. After all\, if a scientific finding is not reproducible and accessible\, it is untrustworthy and cannot form the basis of future research and innovation.\nJoin us at our Open Science workshop! \nMain purpose of the workshop:\nExpose the problem in understanding how to improve and increase reproducibility in Science.\nProvide concrete knowledge\, skills\, and best practices in reproducibility measures.\nEnable attendees to network and share experience in conducting Open Science in their field of expertise

SUMMARY:Implementing Metascience: Putting Ideas into Practice
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \nMetascientists often identify areas for improvement in science\, and propose opportunities for change. Yet implementing these proposed changes is challenging and many ideas never gain traction following their initial proposal. This virtual symposium brings together researchers and practitioners to reflect on the process of translating metascientific research into tangible interventions to improve the way science is practiced\, disseminated\, and evaluated.\nThe moderated panel discussion will include brief\, action-focused introductory presentations of efforts to translate metascience into changes in behavior\, policy\, and practice at both the individual and institutional level. This will be followed by a moderated discussion on successes\, lessons learned\, and challenges\, which can help inform and inspire future implementation efforts in metascience and beyond. \nThis session will be moderated by Nicholas DeVito of the University of Oxford and has confirmed panelists discussing transparency in biomedical research and Registered Reports. The aim of this virtual symposium is to share knowledge and build a community across a broad group of stakeholders and disciplines working to bridge metascience into practice. \nWatch the recording. \n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW
