10 Tales of Reproducibility: Stories That Inspire Better Research

Research reproducibility is often discussed through policies, guidelines, and scientific publications. But behind every successful initiative are people, organisations, and communities taking practical steps to improve the way research is conducted and shared.

To highlight these efforts, the OSIRIS project has published the 10 Tales of Reproducibility, a collection of inspiring stories that showcase real-world actions strengthening reproducibility across the research ecosystem.

From Research Findings to Real-World Inspiration

The publication was developed by the OSIRIS Work Package 2 team, led by Veerle Van den Eynden.

Over the past two and a half years, researchers within Work Package 2 have investigated the drivers, barriers, and facilitators influencing research reproducibility across different stakeholder groups.

The work included:

  • Interviews with key stakeholders
  • Focus group discussions
  • Policy audits of journals, research funders, and research institutions
  • A comprehensive scoping review

This extensive body of research generated valuable evidence on how reproducibility can be strengthened across the scientific landscape.

Why “Tales”?

While scientific publications remain an essential output of the project, the OSIRIS team wanted to make the findings more accessible to broader audiences.

The result is a collection of ten stories that showcase initiatives, organisations, and individuals actively contributing to more reproducible research.

Rather than replacing scientific evidence, the publication complements it by translating lessons learned into engaging, practical examples that can inspire action.

We came across interesting stories and initiatives that make a difference to promoting reproducibility and enhancing the reproducibility of research.” – Veerle Van den Eynden

Learning from Successful Examples

The ten selected cases span different stakeholder groups within the research ecosystem and demonstrate a variety of approaches to improving reproducibility.

The stories are intended to help:

  • Research organisations
  • Research funders
  • Academic journals
  • Policymakers
  • Research support professionals
  • Open science advocates

explore how successful initiatives have been implemented elsewhere and consider how similar approaches could be adapted within their own contexts.

Building a More Reproducible Research Culture

Improving reproducibility requires action from many actors across the research system.

The 10 Tales of Reproducibility demonstrate that meaningful change can emerge through practical initiatives, innovative policies, and committed individuals working to strengthen transparency and trust in research.

By sharing these examples, OSIRIS hopes to encourage wider adoption of practices that contribute to a more open, reliable, and reproducible research environment.
